The Question: How Does Hip Hop Influence Urban Education – A Summer Inquiry Experience at Chicago
State University College of Education will be a dynamic, two-week non-residential program designed to inspire high school
students to explore careers in education through the lens of hip-hop culture. Through
courses in Social and Cultural Foundations of Education, Critical Issues in Urban
Education, and The Cultural Influence of Hip-Hop on American Society, students will
engage in interactive workshops, teaching demonstrations, and artistic expression.
The Experience has been designed where students will develop skills in primary and
secondary research, public speaking, collaboration, and planning. The program culminates
with the rewarding of a micro-credential in teaching, indicating that students have
been equipped with foundational knowledge and practical skills to see themselves as
future educators and change-makers in urban education.
